NEWS: The Dark Knight cometh…

Biff Bam Pow Comics | July 17, 2008 | 7:00 pm

If you’re anything like me, a comic book fan in general, a person who likes a bit of a action in their films, or just someone with a pulse, you should be interested in the latest Batman film about to hit cinema screens - The Dark Knight. I won’t go into great detail about the simply stunning viral marketing campaigns on websites such as I Believe In Harvey Dent and Why So Serious - but it’s enough to say that they’ve increased anticipation over the past year.

But now that the film is out, sadly, much of this material is coming to an end. So before it’s all gone - why not head on over to SuperHeroHype for some details on the viral story…

NEWS: I heart Bruce Campbell

Biff Bam Pow Comics | July 15, 2008 | 10:00 pm

One of my all time favourite actors is none other than - Bruce Cambell.

Oddly enough - Bruce is also one of my favourite writers (for both ‘Confessions Of A B-Movie Actor’ and ‘Make Love The Bruce Campbell Way’). So whenever I hear about new Bruce projects - I’m keen to geek out over them.

And having seen Bruce’s interview with Comic Book Resources - I’m practically salivating in anticipation of ‘My Name Is Bruce’, and the UK premiere of ‘Burn Notice’…

NEWS: Oh thank heavens - the DCU will be ok…

Biff Bam Pow Comics | July 14, 2008 | 10:00 pm

…on the Xbox360 and PS3 that is.

To say I was worried about the lameness of the upcoming Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe when I heard about the ‘no fatalities’ rumour - would be an understatement.

Mortal Kombat without fatalities? That was just ludicrous. The possibility of having Catwoman go up against Sonja without a finishing move… Well it was like thinking about an ice cream sundae and being told that you have to eat dirt.

I couldn’t stop thinking about it - but I just didn’t like it.

Now - enter E3, and a brand new trailer…

Worried? Not anymore…!

Yes you heard me right - those of you going to Comic-Con 2008 this year are all a bunch of lucky buggers who have a whole heap of wonder waiting for you. Wonder such as a Stargate Continuum panel, a Q&A on the upcoming Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, an insight into the new Watchmen movie, a special Spaced discussion, a spotlight on Jim Lee, a sneak peek at the Resident Evil: Degeneration trailer, and news on the new Ghostbusters game - from Dan Akroyd.

@£$%@£$.

Oh, I forgot, all this - and a panel all about the new Stargate MMO - finally on its way.

Lucky @£$%&^*@£$.

*sigh*

Click here for more details of the lineup from SuperHeroHype…!

(anyone feel like picking up the tab for a flight from the UK to the US…? =D)

NEWS: The Wanderer Returns!

Biff Bam Pow Comics | July 12, 2008 | 12:00 pm

I’m back! Yes - you’ve probably only noticed a little Meanwhile over the past couple of days - and that’s purely because I’ve been off swanning around the globe. Well, swanning around Warwickshire. But now I’m back in body (the mind has been absent for years) - so you can look forward to a few more reviews, a little more Meanwhile, and more Biff, Bam and Pow than you can shake a stick at.

Not that you would shake a stick at it - but that’s not the point…

NEWS: Don’t see M. Night Shyamalan’s “What the hell is ‘The Happening’?”

Biff Bam Pow Comics | July 9, 2008 | 10:00 pm

Ladies and gentlemen - you all know that this isn’t a movie review website. This is a website all about comic books. But I had to break the mould a little to encourage you all to avoid M. Night Shyamalan’s most recent ‘epic’ - The Happening.

I have, quite literally, just lost an hour and half of my life watching what can only be considered as utter drivel. Marky Mark gives one of the worst performances of his life (which is a stunning sentence in itself), and the other immediately forgettable actors and actresses around him, are no doubt all regretting the decision to be part of this complete waste of space.

Watch at your own peril.

NEWS: Pete’s Kick In The Balls List - June 2008

Biff Bam Pow Comics | July 8, 2008 | 10:30 pm

Yes that’s right - here is my official ‘kick in the balls’ list for last month. Would I have seen any of the below people in the month of June, I would have given them a swift kick to end zone, and probably been carted off in a police car.

3. Peter David

Ah Peter Peter Peter… You took She-Hulk, you looked at Dan Slott’s work, and you thought to yourself - “how can I improve on this?” Then, after you realised you didn’t have any immediate ideas, you stripped her of everything fans were enjoying, and tried to recreate her from the ground up. I tip my cap to you for the attempt sir, but I kick you in the balls for the f@£k up.

2. Dan Slott

Thought you’d escaped the list after that nice little write up did you? Well think again Slott. You sir, have committed a crime deserving of the maximum sentence. Not only have you written for the abomination that is Amazing Spider-Man: Brand New Day - you’ve done it pretty halfheartedly. That’s right - the bigger crime is not that you’ve changed something about the character (although a kick in the balls is the tip of the nut-shot iceberg for you on that one), it’s that you’ve churned out work far below your own high standards. A shake of the hand for the excellent She-Hulk, and a kick to the balls for Amazing Spider-Man.

1. Dan DiDio

I really don’t know where to begin with you Dan. We’ve had a funny old relationship you and I. I’ve written you letters, you’ve not responded, and I’m still sat here buying your comics. Comics of such ‘quality’ as Trinity. And Final Crisis. Comics I should be loving as a life long DC fan. But what have I got instead? Comics that I want to make paper airplanes out of. Your sir - you don’t just get a kick to the balls - you get a steel toe capped Brazilian soccer player kick to the balls. Hope your voice isn’t too squeaky afterwards.

Biff Bam Pow Comics | July 7, 2008 | 9:30 pm

It’s that time again! Cee Diddy has combed the earth, cast a net across the sky and used the power of his telepathic cats to bring you a bunch of crazy (and probably not so crazy) ass rumours. This time mainly centering around Batman R.I.P. and any possible ‘big reveals’.

What’s my money on? I’ll give you three guesses. In the meantime - click here to get yourself some New Cee Diddy Holla!

NEWS: Michael Turner - a talent greatly missed

Biff Bam Pow Comics | June 30, 2008 | 10:00 pm

By now, no doubt you will have heard the news that Michael Turner, creator of Fathom and founder of Aspen MLT, lost his battle with cancer at the age of 37, passing away three days ago on June 27th.

There truly aren’t words to express how much Michael will be missed by those who knew him, and his many fans across the globe. It’s truly saddening to know that he won’t be popping up in future DC books, or sneaking onto a new Marvel front cover.

He will be greatly missed.

NEWS: Doctor Who - series finale (spoilerific)

Biff Bam Pow Comics | | 7:33 pm

Ok, ok, ok - this isn’t exactly comic book related news, but I’ll crowbar it in on the flimsy pretense that whatever happens to David Tennant next Saturday might impact on the excellent Doctor Who comic.

Now - that being said, let me throw my ten pence into the hat as to what I think is going to happen next week…

***POTENTIALLY MAJOR SPOILER ON THE OFFCHANCE ITS RIGHT***

David Tennant is going to regenerate into Neil Morrissey, only for him to come right back when his hand grows itself a new body. That’s right - I think that David’s going to be sticking around for a little while, but I also think that we’ll be getting a new Doctor too.

And what do I base all of this on? Well, the past rumour mill flying about around David Tennant’s departure, the fact that Neil Morrissey is alongside our current 10th doctor in the Christmas special, and a general ‘gut feeling’ about the hand…

Oh - and one more thing. If you watched the ‘Doctor Who Confidential’ episode that followed Saturday’s cliffhanger, you might have noticed one Mickey loitering in the background of a readthrough. Oh - and a promo picture of him, along with Rose’s mother, and the rest of the cast (above).

Thoughts anyone?
